Adult Leadership

Adult volunteers are at the heart of Scouting. Scouting is not only about young people, but also about the development of adults within the Movement. That is why when you join 1st Coseley Scouts as an adult volunteer, we will treat you as one of our own and with the upmost respect.

Our Roles

We have 2 major roles as scout leaders that are readily available. These are the following:

Assistant Section Leader: This role supports the operation of the selected section. This role requires a formal, up-to-date Disclosure Check (Known as a DBS) which the Scouting Association can fund, as well as take on a formal appointment. This would consist of the planning and delivery of the programme, as well as participating in training modules that must be completed in due course. You will be part of the 1st Coseley section team and 1st Coseley Scout Group as a whole, working together to bring your own ideas to the table as well as improving your skills set as you teach the youth of Coseley important life skills, mixing it with a fun twist. With this role, it is expected that you attend every week. However, we do understand that life does get busy at times and we always understand if you may not be able to attend the odd night due to that music gig, or that important work meeting. However, we do expect you to participate as much as you can and that you can give at least 1.5 / 2 hours per week in volunteering. This role is very beneficial for multiple reasons, including a sense of pride, achievement, as well as learning skills you may not have known before.

Sectional Assistant: This is a toned down version of an Assistant Section Leader. It requires a formal, up-to-date Disclosure Check (Known as a DBS), which is funded by the scouting association. The main difference between this role and the above is that you will not be required to get involved in the planning of the programme, but instead be available for the delivering of the programme. This means you will work with Section Leaders and Assistant Section Leaders to help run the section, getting involved in looking after the scouts and teaching them in the activities that they will be participating in. We will look after you throughout the programme and you will be taught everything that needs to be taken into account, so don’t be nervous if you may not fully understand your role. Also, unlike the assistant section leader role, there is only the need of mandatory training modules that needs to be completed, including Safeguarding, Safety and First Aid. This role is perfect who would love to help as a volunteer but cannot attend every week due to other commitments, as you are not required to attend every week unlike our other role. We understand and always prioritise those with busy lifestyles to live their lives outside of scouting, so by taking on this role and fitting your lifestyle around volunteering would be a great opportunity to those who apply to.
